Quick answer: Open Instagram, tap your profile picture, tap the menu (three lines) in the top corner, and tap Saved. Everything you've bookmarked is under All posts, and any collections you've made appear as folders. Only you can see your saved posts.
Instagram updates its layout often; these steps match the iPhone app as of October 2026.
Saving a post on Instagram takes one tap. Finding it again weeks later is where people get stuck, because Saved is tucked inside a menu and has no search. Here's where everything lives and how to keep it usable.
Find your saved posts
- Tap your profile picture in the bottom-right corner.
- Tap the menu button (three lines) in the top-right corner.
- Tap Saved.
Profile›Menu (☰)›Saved
All posts shows everything you've ever saved, newest first, including Reels. Saved audio (songs and sounds) has its own section.
How to save a post (and put it in a collection)
- Tap the bookmark icon under a post or on a Reel.
- A bar appears offering to save it to a collection. Tap it to choose one, or create a new one.
- To add an already-saved post to a collection later, open the collection, tap the plus or More button, and pick posts from All posts.
Collections are the only real way to organize saves, since there's no search inside Saved. A few broad collections work better than many precise ones: Recipes, Places, Outfits, Ideas.
Create, rename or delete a collection
- Create: in Saved, tap the + button, name the collection, and choose posts to add.
- Rename or change the cover: open the collection, tap the More button (three dots), and choose Edit collection.
- Delete: same menu, Delete collection. The posts stay in All posts.
- Share a collection: collaborative collections let you and friends save posts to the same folder, which is great for planning trips.
Saved vs Archive vs Likes
| What it is | Where to find it | |
|---|---|---|
| Saved | Other people's posts you bookmarked | Profile → Menu → Saved |
| Archive | Your own posts and stories you hid from your profile | Profile → Menu → Archive |
| Likes | Posts you liked | Profile → Menu → Your activity → Likes (under Interactions) |
If a post you're looking for isn't in Saved, check Likes: many people like a post meaning to save it.
Why saved posts disappear
- The creator deleted or archived it. Your save points at nothing, and it vanishes from Saved.
- The account went private or blocked you. You can no longer see the post.
- You tapped the bookmark again, which unsaves it.
This is the big weakness of saving inside an app: you don't own a copy. For anything you'll need later, keep the details somewhere else too.
Keep important posts outside Instagram
For a recipe, a restaurant, a product or a tutorial you really want, tap Share on the post, copy the link, and save it with a few words, like "pasta – lemon ricotta" or "ramen place Shoreditch". If the useful part is in the caption, copy that too, since the post may not be there forever. In Snugit, that's one tap from the share sheet, and searching "ramen" finds it next to links from TikTok or Safari on the same topic. Saving Instagram and TikTok posts.
Download a Reel
For public Reels where the creator allows it, the Share menu includes a Download option that saves the video to your Photos. Downloads are for personal use; reposting someone else's video needs their permission.
Troubleshooting
- No Saved option in the menu: update the Instagram app from the App Store; older versions put Saved behind a bookmark icon on your profile.
- Saved posts won't load: check your connection, then force-quit and reopen the app.
- Can't find a post you know you saved: scroll All posts, check Likes, or search the account's name and look through its profile.
Find a post you saw but didn't save
- Check Likes: Profile → Menu → Your activity, under Interactions. Many people like a post instead of saving it.
- Search the account: if you remember who posted it, open their profile and scroll their grid or Reels tab.
- Check your messages: if a friend sent it to you, it's still in that Instagram chat.
- Search by topic: Instagram search covers accounts, hashtags and places, which can lead you back to the post.
A simple system that keeps saves useful
- Pick three to five collections that match how you'll use things later: Recipes, Places, Buy, Ideas.
- Choose a collection when you save, using the bar that appears after tapping the bookmark. Sorting later rarely happens.
- Once a month, scroll All posts and unsave anything you no longer care about.
- Copy out anything you'll truly need, like a recipe or an address, so it survives if the post is deleted.
Fifteen minutes of setup turns a pile of hundreds of saves into a handful of folders you'll actually open.
Common questions
Can people see what I save on Instagram?
No. Your saved posts are private, and the person who posted it isn't notified when you save it. Only collaborative collections you share are visible to the people you invite.
Is there a limit to how many posts you can save?
Instagram doesn't publish a limit, and people save thousands of posts. The practical limit is finding them again, since Saved has no search.
Can I search my saved posts?
Not directly. Use collections to group them, or keep the posts that matter as links with a few words in a searchable app.
How do I find saved posts on a computer?
On instagram.com, open your profile and look for the Saved tab or the More menu. The same saves and collections appear across devices.
How do I unsave a post?
Open the post and tap the filled bookmark icon. It is removed from All posts and from any collections it was in.
Download Snugit and keep the posts you'll need again, even if they disappear from Instagram.
