How to Save a Link on iPhone (So You Don't Lose It)

Quick answer: In Safari, tap Share and choose Add to Reading List or Add Bookmark. From any other app, tap Share and send the link to Notes or a saving app like Snugit. Or touch and hold the link, tap Copy Link, and paste it somewhere permanent.

Written for iOS 18 and iOS 26. Menu names can differ slightly on older versions.

Texting a link to yourself works once. After a few dozen, your own chat thread is an unsearchable wall of URLs with no idea why you saved any of them. Here are the six ways iPhone can save a link properly, and when each one is the right pick.

1. Add it to Safari's Reading List

  1. Open the page in Safari.
  2. Tap Share. On iOS 26 with the compact tab bar, tap the More button (three dots) first.
  3. Tap Add to Reading List.

To find it later, tap the Bookmarks button (the open book) and switch to the Reading List tab (the glasses). Reading List is built for articles you plan to read soon. It can keep an offline copy: turn on Automatically Save Offline in Safari's settings.

2. Bookmark it

Tap Share, then Add Bookmark, and choose a folder. Bookmarks suit a small number of sites you return to on purpose, like a tool you use every week. Add it to Favorites and it shows up every time you open a new tab. Not sure which of the two to use? Here's Reading List vs Bookmarks.

3. Copy the link and paste it somewhere permanent

Touch and hold any link (in Safari, Mail, Messages or Notes) and tap Copy Link. In Safari you can also touch and hold the address bar and tap Copy. Then paste it into a note right away. The clipboard only holds one thing, so the next copy erases it. More on how the clipboard works.

4. Save it to Notes

Tap Share, then Notes, pick a note (or start a new one), and tap Save. The link appears as a preview card with the page title. Add a line about why you saved it, because that's what you'll search for later, not the URL.

5. Add it to your Home Screen

For a site you open daily, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. It gets its own icon like an app. Great for two or three sites; messy beyond that.

6. Send it to a saving app

Apps like Snugit appear in the share sheet of every app, not just Safari. Tap Share in Instagram, TikTok, X, Mail or YouTube, tap Save to Snugit, and the link is saved with its title. Months later, typing a word from the title finds it in about two seconds. If Snugit doesn't appear in the share sheet, here's how to add it.

Saving links from apps that aren't Safari

Instagram, TikTok and other apps open links in their own built-in browser. Look for the Share button or the three-dot menu in that browser and choose Copy link or Open in Safari. From there, any method above works.

Common questions

How do I save a link from Instagram or TikTok?

Tap the Share button on the post (or the three-dot menu in their in-app browser), then choose Copy link or send it straight to a saving app like Snugit. Reading List and Bookmarks only work for pages opened in Safari, so for links from other apps use Notes, Copy Link or a saving app.

Where is my Reading List on iPhone?

Open Safari, tap the Bookmarks button (the open book), and tap the glasses tab at the top. That list syncs to your other Apple devices if Safari is turned on in iCloud settings.

Can I save a link to the Files app?

Not as a link, but you can save the page as a PDF: tap Share, then Options, choose PDF, then Save to Files. That keeps a copy of the page even if the link breaks later.

What is the fastest way to save a link?

The share sheet. In almost any app, tap Share and then the app you save to. Put that app in your share sheet Favorites so it is always the first icon, and saving becomes two taps.

Do saved links still work if the page changes?

A saved link always opens the current version of the page, so if it is edited or deleted you see the new version or an error. For anything you need to keep exactly as it is, like a receipt or booking, save a PDF as well.

Download Snugit to save links from any app in one tap and find them by typing a word.
