How to Save an Address So You Don't Lose It

Quick answer: In Apple Maps, search the address or touch and hold the map to drop a pin, then save the place to your Library (or Favorites) and add a note. For a person's home, add the address to their contact. For one-off addresses, save the text with a clear name.

Written for iOS 18 and iOS 26. Menu names can differ slightly on older versions.

Addresses arrive in texts, emails and screenshots, and they're never where you need them. Here's where each kind should go.

Save a place in Apple Maps

  1. Search the address, or touch and hold the map to drop a pin.
  2. In the place card, tap the save (or plus) button to add it to your Library.
  3. On recent iOS versions, add a personal note, like "Park in the back, gate code 4412".

Find saved places by tapping your profile picture in Maps and opening your Library.

Group places in a Guide

For a set of places, like restaurants to try or a trip itinerary, create a Guide from your Library and add places to it. Guides are easy to share with whoever you're traveling with.

Add it to a contact

If the address belongs to a person you'll visit again, open their contact, tap Edit, and add the address. Then "Directions to Sam's" works with Siri and Maps.

Send a location instead of typing it

In a Maps place card, tap Share to send the exact location. In Messages, you can also share your current location. Exact pins avoid typos and buildings with confusing entrances.

One-off addresses

A pickup point, a pop-up event, a rental for one weekend: these don't belong in Contacts. Save the address as text with a clear name, plus any details like door codes. In Snugit, "Airbnb Lisbon address" is one search away, next to the booking confirmation.

Copy an address from a screenshot

Open the screenshot in Photos and tap the address: Live Text detects it and offers to open it in Maps.

Download Snugit to keep one-off addresses and their details findable.
